Today's Air Quality Conditions
Significant smoke and elevated fine particulate levels are still possible near the Black Bear Fire in northern Haywood County near I-40 mile marker 3. Elsewhere across the state current daily average particle pollution concentrations remain within the Code Green range.

General Forecast Discussion
Rainfall overnight has likely helped reduce smoke from fires across the region, including the Black Bear Fire in Haywood County. Very localized areas of smoke near the fire may still be producing unhealthy air quality, and strong winds could begin to transport and grow the smoke plume this afternoon.
Outlook
We will continue to monitor the evolution of the Black Bear Fire as the weekend progresses. Areas downwind of fires may continue to experience smoke, and we will refine the forecast for these areas of southwestern NC and elsewhere as warranted. By Tuesday into Wednesday, a widespread, soaking rain event should significantly aid in cleansing the air shed of any remaining smoke and fine particulates.
For areas not impacted by wildfire smoke, generally clean, Code Green air quality is expected to continue through the weekend into Monday.
For areas not impacted by wildfire smoke, generally clean, Code Green air quality is expected to continue through the weekend into Monday.
Extended Air Quality Outlook
The forecast Air Quality Index value for each pollutant represents the highest value expected within each county, so some areas and monitors may see lower values. We use the best information and techniques available to ensure the quality and accuracy of the forecasts we provide to the public. Note that ranges do not include the nine-county Triad region, which is covered by the Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection.
